About

I am themanabroad, known by my friends as James and my colleagues as Zhan Mu Si (Jaa More Suur(James in Chinese)). I have always been enthusiastic about photography and travelling, since school always trying to sign up for photography classes which unfortunately always seemed to get cancelled for one reason or another. One Christmas my parents bought me a pentax film camera, I wish I could tell you the model however I have forgotten it, I still have this camera however back in my home in the UK but when it was given to me I have no clue how to use it, and it showed in the photos I attempted to take. This completely disheartened me from the word go, and it wasn’t until a few years later when my parents bought my my first digital camera (canon 400D) that my love of photography was rekindled! Still with no real idea on how to use the thing, but with the ability to shoot and delete images and play around.

However it hasn’t really been until moving to China that my passion has really taken off and my learning has been fast and enjoyable, living in China has given me the time and opportunity to combine my two loves, so please come and join me in my life in South-East Asia.

It is my hope and aim that by the time my journey around this part of the world ends that I can pull my photos and experiences together and bind them in a more physical form. Making a book of my travels and my memories will be my ultimate achievement, and though I have no particular ambition for it to get published I feel that it will be a nice way for me to draw a line under this chapter of my life.

I hope you enjoy reading about my travels as much as I enjoy experiencing them.

I like the Chinese version of your name. My grandmother would have called you “Gemhusee”.
